What to Expect During Your Visit

First Appointment:

When you come for your first appointment we will meet for about an hour and a half, during which time, we will have an in-depth discussion about your health.  We will talk about your health concerns, lifestyle, health history, medications, and health goals.  An assessment and diagnosis will be made and we will discuss my recommend course of treatment specific to your condition. A common treatment plan for a single complaint would typically involve one or two treatments a week. The number of treatments will depend on the condition being treated and its severity, but between 6 and 12 treatments are common.

The second portion of your first appointment will be an acupuncture treatment.  We select points based on your diagnosis and areas of pain.  The acupuncture needles that we use are medical grade, sterile, single-use needles that are very thin, so you typically will not feel the insertion of the needles.  Some people feel a prick, similar to a mosquito bite, or a mild aching sensation.  We allow you to rest for about twenty minutes and then remove the needles.  Most people feel relaxed and refreshed after their treatment and look forward to the opportunity to step away from their busy lives.

Follow-up Appointments:

Follow-up visits take about an hour and should happen once or twice a week depending on the severity of your condition.  We will check in with you about what has improved or changed, any current health concerns, a physical examination, and reassessment of your tongue and pulse.  You will receive an acupuncture treatment and because the follow-up treatments are much more focused on you getting a treatment, you will be able to relax on the table for about forty-five minutes. As your symptoms subside, you will be able to reduce the frequency of treatments to every other week, monthly, or even seasonally.
